Hustle Finance ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable South African legislation.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following personal information when you use the app:

  • Account information: Email address and password (stored securely via Supabase Auth)
  • Profile information: Full name, age bracket, business type, trading name, SARS tax number, VAT number
  • Financial data: Income entries, expense entries, invoices, quotes, credit notes, client details, mileage logs
  • Receipt images: Photos of receipts submitted for scanning (processed via third-party AI, not permanently stored on external servers)

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to provide the app's functionality:

  • Calculating estimated tax obligations
  • Generating invoices, quotes, and credit notes
  • Tracking income and expenses
  • Producing financial reports and exports
  • Scanning and extracting receipt data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

  • Supabase: Database hosting, authentication, and edge functions (data stored in secure, access-controlled databases)
  • Anthropic (Claude AI): Receipt image analysis. Images are sent to Anthropic's API for text extraction and are not retained by Anthropic after processing
  • Expo: App framework and push notification services

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database secured by Row Level Security (RLS), ensuring that each user can only access their own data. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.

Financial data is also cached locally on your device for offline access. This local data is stored in your device's secure application storage.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time through the Settings screen. Upon deletion, all personal and financial data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

6. Your Rights Under POPIA

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to:

  • Access your personal information held by us
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Object to the processing of your personal information
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator

7. Children's Privacy

The app is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
